This Southern Wisconsin town derives its' name from Potawatomi word Wau-be-gan-naw-po-cat, meaning “white water” as Whitewater Creek is the area's prominent water feature.

UW-Whitewater is the other dominant positive influence on this town of 14,000 contributing to Whitewater's dynamic, downtown character.  Having a large student population contributes not only to city's dynamic arts community but the diversity of restaurants and local shops within walking distance of campus.
