EDGERTON
In the late 19th century up until the 1950s, Edgerton was the heart and soul of Wisconsin's tobacco growing region. At one point, there were nearly 52 tobacco warehouses located in and around the downtown area.
Today, Edgerton's tobacco industry, though much diminished due to the declining popularity of smoking, is still intact. In the recent decades, some of the town's historic warehouses have been fully restored, and converted to new uses like retail and apartment rentals.
Edgerton is also the boyhood home of Sterling North, author of the children's book, Rascal. The darling masked bandit, adopted by legions of adoring fans in Japan when the character was made into a popular anime series Araiguma Rasukaru あらいぐまラスカル.
After spending the entire downtown exploring Edgerton's many historic buildings, and following Rascal's padded paws across town to sites (featured in Sterling North's book), a relaxing visit to the Rock River or Lake Koshkonong is just a short drive away.

The water level rose significantly after the first dam was installed along the Rock River at Indianford in 1846, and the marsh became Wisconsin's eighth largest lake and a prime fishery, with walleye its' bread-and-butter. (More...)
