Milton Abolitionist Joseph Goodrich and the Seventh Day Baptist Church

Every year on March 4th, or the closest weekend to it, the Pioneer Dinner is held in the Milton House (stop over of Underground Railroad) to celebrate the founding of the town of Milton on march 4th 1839. A party of 13 people led by Joseph and Nancy Goodrich arrived at a locked red framed building Joseph at built in Milton that would not be called Milton until a few years later.
Joseph Goodrich a devout Seventh Day Baptist came to the area from western New York. Goodrich like many in his New York congregation was an ardent abolitionist.
Under the next four pastors, the issue of slavery became a top concern for Milton's Seventh Day Baptist denomination. The Seventh Day Baptist General Conference went so far as to declare the institution as a sin against God
In 1854, many Seventh Day Baptists, including 48 men from the Milton church alone, joined the Union Army during the civil war. This period of change for the country was a period of change for the church as well.
Milton became an academic community with the growth and development of Milton College, which was founded as Milton Academy by Joseph Goodrich and many of his fellow Seventh Day Baptists. The church and Milton College would have a close relationship through the college's entire history.
The arrival of the railroad in 1850 gave birth to Milton's sister community, Milton Junction, founded as a railroad community. There were many personal and cultural differences between the Seventh Day Baptist who inhabited this new town and the old town of Milton, but they continued to attend the same church for the next 26 years.

Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church Craft Fair Returns
This Saturday (October 29) Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church (HMC) is hosting a Craft Fair!
HMC has hosted the crafting event for over 10 years. Find a wide variety of items for sale by 15 area crafters. Quilted items, plushies, gnomes, wreathes, knitting stockings stuff, crafted signs, photography and books by a local author make for great holiday gifts. Also, be sure to check out the bake sale for breakfast or lunch

Ruby's Pop-up Pantry Hosted Every 4th Wednesday Of the Month In Jefferson
The pantry is hosted by Immanuel Methodist Church at the Jefferson County Fair Park inside the Indoor Horse Arena. A $20 entry fee/donation is required to receive the groceries. The event starts with registration at 4:30 PM and continues until 6:30 PM. The Jefferson County Fair Park is located off of East Racine Street (Hwy. 18) at 503 North Jackson Avenue, Jefferson, Wisconsin. Ruby’s Pop-Up Pantry, is non-denominational, 501 (c)(3) based in North Branch, Minnesota.
