The Last Day - 3/8/2021 by Brian Huser, Rock River Bait Box

This past Sunday, March 7th was the deadline set by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to remove all permanent shanties from lakes in the southern part of the state. This coming Sunday, March 13th is the deadline for anglers with permanents on lakes north of Highway 64.

The warmer weather the past week has changed everything. The ice may be thick out on the lake but getting there is the problem. Shoreline ice has disintegrated, If you don't have a plank you might be able to get out there at all.

Some guys are saying that it looks like it will be the last day out on Lake Koshkonnong. that's true for reports on Lake Ripley and other area lakes in our region.

In the last 36 hours water has opened up from Jefferson Dam down to Lake Koshkonong.. However, residual ice letting loose has created treacherous conditions out there. Anglers have been dodging ice bergs out there on the Rock River.

Being that game fishing season is closed for most area lakes until the first weekend in May, the coming weeks will be mostly pan fishing reports.

Hopefully, by next week. the Rock River and Lake Koshkonong will be open up.
