GEORGE PULLEN HOUSE

( 7) A short distance away is our next destination on the tour 137 West Main Street. This home built for banker George Pullen, is a striking example of the Victorian Stick style. Note the decorative wood trim (hand turned spindles) of assembled sticks under each

steep gabled, roof and porch, even a first-floor window. The Stick Style is often attributed to British born American architect Gervase Wheeler who authored the book Sketches of Houses Suited to American Country Life. In Wheeler’s popular home guide, he expressed his interest in English Tudor architecture., a style famous for its’ exterior wooden sticks.
