UNION BANK & TRUST CO.

( 3) Head west to our next stop 8 East Main Street. Once a hardware store, this building constructed in 1897 exhibits many of the details of the Queen Anne style. Note the double bay windows on the second floor. Glance above at the horizontal line of bricks projecting forward from the building’s exterior wall, which resembles teeth. This is decorative band of bricks is dentil

molding which is more commonly seen underneath a cornice (or roof overhang.)  Lastly, note at the very top the elaborate parapet (overhanging wall) and the date plate at the very top very typical of a more prosperous period. The S & M Block was beautifully restored by the Union Bank & Trust Company. Their restoration efforts won a Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation award
