The Brodhead Depot Museum

The Brodhead Historical Society operates its' museum in the former Milwaukee Road depot in

downtown Brodhead. What could be a more ideal setting for a historical society than the very depot

which is responsible for the city's founding in 1856?

The depot museum features displays of historical railroad equipment and memorabilia including a train engine

manufactured in Beloit and a fully restored caboose that visitors can explore. The museum recently completed its' expansion in 2016 thanks to the generous support by William S. Knight. The new building features a permanent

exhibit of Knight manufacturing's farm equipment innovations and production. New displays include F.H. Engbretson paintings by the local barn muralist, music instruments, wedding dresses, and annually rotating exhibits. A new main exhibit in 2019 is an early 1900s General Store.

There is something for everyone visiting the museum to pique the interest of history buffs of all ages. Who wouldn't want to marvel over a big mammoth tooth found near a local creek by a little boy, or explore the train engine and caboose?

The museum proudly displays artifacts of Brodhead's notable Civil War era, 1st Brigade Band,

cheese making heritage, and early settlement businesses and lifestyles.
