The 11 Best Restaurants in Whitewater, Wisconsin

Whitewater has Subway, Culvers, and A&W Root beer but maybe the family wants to try something more local.  Whitewater Lake is just minutes from downtown Whitewater, and the dining for a college town of almost 15,000 is not surprisingly varied and adventurous.  Whitewater's downtown caters to its student population which means there are a lot of pizza places around.  Dining around town with so many truly creative local chefs and restaurants will definitely warrant future visits to Whitewater after a hike at the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit (KMSF) or a boat rental on the Rock River or Whitewater Lake.

Before you go, COVID-19 has created a labor shortage in the restaurant industry.

Many workers are performing multiple roles on the job. Please be patient and kind

with the waitstaff, and restaurants listed.

ENJOY DINING AT THESE AREA RESTAURANTS

Grunzolio Pizzeria and Brewpub

Dining at Domino's is not an option for college town like Whitewater.  Grunzolio Pizzeria and Brewpub is always a local favorite and with students. Pizza and beer there is no closer place to Valhalla than that combo for the university set. This pizzeria makes fresh pizzas with fresh ingredients, homemade sauce every morning and sells pizza by the slice throughout the day.  And patrons can find a great tap menu of beers brewed by this popular student institution.

China House

The popularity of American fast food or junk food comes from the scientifically, successfully identified ratio of salt to sugar. Many smaller town Chinese restaurants know this winning combo of flavor yields repeat customers. And while China House does ascribe to the sweet to salty formula where the restaurant deviates is the chef's less reliance on salt. This flavor choice is apparent in China House's fried rice, which is not brownish from an abundance soy sauce. There is the traditional American offering of a lunch special with the classics like General Tsao's, Sesame Chicken and Cashew Chicken but unlike many Chinese restaurants these days owned by Chinese from the Mainland, China House's Garden's menu harkens back to the days of when Cantonese cuisine dominated American options. For those Cantonese classics look no further than the many choices like Lo Mein, Mu Shu, Chow Mei Fun, Chow Mein, and Chop Suey.

And Bonus points: tea for complimentary for all customers, self serve, usually Oolong a Chinese classic.

This restaurant is plastic free, cash and check only please.

Then there's the homemade soups, like the vegetable beef.
