Take The Family to Monroe for Trunk Or Treat On Historic Courthouse Square

Monroe, WI — "It's like a stationary float parade. Some people call it a

Halloween on steroids kind of thing," says Jordan Nordby, former Executive Director, Main Street Monroe. Trunk or Treat, now in its' 17th year has become so popular with attendees and participants this year it's expanded to include the entire Historic Courthouse Square. Main Street Monroe puts on the Halloween event to bring people downtown and support local businesses. The non-profit focuses on economic development with events like Cars On the Square, Project Pop Up,

late night shopping, and a wine walk couple times of year.

If you have not been to Monroe's Historic Courthouse Square this is the perfect time see it. The downtown has thrived, through dedicated efforts and volunteer work of Mainstreet Monroe. Pride in Monroe's small businesses kept the city center vibrant. Not only vibrant, unique, destination worthy for its' restaurants and small, locally owned boutiques.

If you are not familiar with a Trunk or Treat you are in for a delight.

All around the Historic Courthouse Square along the inner ring cars will be decorated in a variety themes. "Charlie Brown was very popular in the past. Some are a little bit more topical, movies are popular," says Nordby. Michael Myers' series of Halloween movies and the Scream franchise are popular themes. Other Trunk themes in the past include Cookie Monster, and the television show Friends complete with Central Perk pillows, a purple painted door and two participants dressed up as the cast members. One year an entrant turned their miniature car into a giant frog. All the trunks of course are filled with treats for kids to safely come by and fill their Halloween themed bags or pumpkin baskets.

"We don't do trophies but there is a secrete committee checking everything out," says Nordby of the Trunk or Treat entrants. There are awards handed out to the best trunk and runner up. The winners receiving gift certificates to area downtown businesses.

And for Trunk Or Treat, businesses around the square will be open Sunday for lunch from 2 -4 pm. A lot of downtown businesses typically closed on Sunday will stay open for the event.

"It is really a nice community event to bring people downtown during trick or treat," Nordby says.
