Despite Spring and Summer Rains Flooding Is Not Yet A Concern On Area Lakes

According to data put out by the USGS Madison's Chain-Of-Lakes face the highest levels since 2020's summer. Lake Mendota, Lake Monona, and Lake Waubesa are all at least a foot above the maximum water marks Dane county aims for each summer. There is a slight concern by John Reimer, assistant director of Dane County’s Land and Water Resources Department, regarding the lake levels .are 20 to 25 inches lower than they were during the summer floods of 2018. To combat the current levels Dane county is opening the dams between area lakes at higher percentages, Tenney Lapham locks which control water levels for Lake Monona and Mendota are opened at 50%.
