Join the city of Sun Prairie in Celebrating Winter with Frozen Fest
In case you didn't notice Winter is finally here. It is time for everyone to get out of their cocooned COVID-19 existences and have fun. This weekend there is an additional way to enjoy the season outdoors with Sun Prairie's 1st ever fete, Frozen Fest put on by Sun Prairie Parks, Recreation and Forestry (SPPRF) Department. SPPRF is teaming up with a number of local organizations and businesses to promote events, activities, attractions and promotions/specials in Sun Prairie.
Opening Ceremony
The festivities begin on Friday (Jan. 28th) at the Angel Park Pavilion with a flurry of outdoor activities. Choose from live outdoor music, special guest appearances, trivia & prize giveaways, games for kids, and real sightings of
Jimmy the Groundhog mascot.
A Full Day of Activities
Begin your day at Frozen Fest heading over to Cannery Square at 9 AM to watch artists carve blocks of ice into beautiful sculptures. The event wraps up around 3 PM so there is time to enjoy other festival activities going on during the day. Or head over to Sheehan Park for the Cardboard Sled Classic (CSC), a day full of fun sliding down Sun Prairie's highest hill. The CSC is open to all, compete for the fastest down hill time or best design made out of cardboard of course. If you're a good golfer even if you're not enjoy a city wide bar competition of miniature golf, the Ground Hog Open. Sun Prairie is in Dane County so masks are mandatory in all indoor public spaces, like bars, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
And what would any winter festival be with out an ice rink? Ice skating at Frozen Fest will take place in Wetmore Park, 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM with music, games, prize giveaways.
Hibernation Hustle
Frozen Fest concludes at 10 AM (Sunday, January 30th) with a 5k run/walk race in downtown Sun Prairie to benefit.the Boys & Girls Club..
