The Sterling North Film Festival

The link between Sterling North's children's classics and the movie industry runs deep. In 1977, Hayao Miyazake, famed creator of the internationally acclaimed "My Neighbor Totoro" began his career adapting children's classics into cartoon form for Nippon Animation. One of his greatest early animating efforts for NA yielded a classic Japanese adaptation of North's popular book "Rascal." "Araiguma Rascal" was the first successful cartoon series on Japanese television and ran for 52 episodes. Almost a Decade prior, the Japanese discovered Rascal Disney had created a live action film in 1969 starring Bill Mumy.

The Sterling North Film Festival is just another event Edgerton and has created to foster a greater connection to Sterling North and his work. 2022 marks the 45th anniversary of Nippon Animation's Rascal cartoon. All 52 episodes are now available at Youtube for viewing.

On May 15 at 2 p.m. “Araiguma Rascal” animated series produced in 1977 by Nippon Animation will be shown in the Sterling North House Barn.

The kid friendly event continues at 3PM with “Rockoon” where children of all ages will have a chance to adorn a rock with a painting of their very own version of Edgerton's favorite son Rascal.
