Lakes Edition's Farm Stand Guide

To Field Fresh Corn in Southern Wisconsin

Our state is dead center in America's vast corn growing region. According to the United States Department

of Agriculture (USDA) Wisconsin ranked third among corn producing states in 2020. The state is situated

along the edge of the Midwest Corn Belt a region punctuated with cool, wet springs

and hot, humid summers.

And, Wisconsin's largest crop harvested annually, corn, can be found in every corner of the state at county fairs, festivals, family corn roasts and block parities  courtesy of our great Badger state corn growers. Here is just a sampling of road side, farm stands in Southern Wisconsin worth

pulling over for.

In no particular order or ranking we have included large family oriented operations to the casual

farm stand. And of course there is always the region's largest, local produce event, the

Dane County Farmer's Market (DCFM) if you are in the Madison area.

Please note that corn supplies at any stand is subject to first come first serve but there are still other great vegetables available too.  Stock up on kohlrabi, cherry and plum tomatoes, zucchini,

string beans, early melons, cucumbers and leeks too.

Here is Lake's Edition's 2024 list of corn farm-stands. Flamingo adorned Farm Stand
Located around 335 North Old 26 Road (Close to Glacial River Trail Covered Bridge)

just off of Hwy 26 south of Ft. Atkinson

There are a couple of multi-colored signs displaying a grouping of vegetables that lead you to this well-organized wood stand. Looking for the corn, it is located in three Colemans. There is also a local entrepreneur selling their bread, located in another Coleman. The stand itself features the produce of the moment, expect to see cucumbers, zucchini, green peppers (.50/each) and beefsteak tomatoes.

Another highlight aside from the corn, this farm stand is just around the corner from the Glacial River Bike Trail which connects Milton with downtown Ft. Atkinson. Recommended: if you have five minutes walk or bike south on the trail and visit the Covered Bridge. Designed by Jefferson native, Craig Roost to resemble a train caboose Roost wanted the trail to feature a structure that resembled a similar one located not far from the current site.

Take time and a camera to note the truss stick construction. Roost wanted the construction of the covered bridge to remain true to the historic building of the past.
