After operating since 1844, Milton College closed in 1982.
 
The Milton College Preservation Society (MCPS) is a not for profit organization formed in 2005 by the merger of the New Alumni Association of Milton College (NAAMC) and the Main Hall Preservation Society (MHPS). The Society is dedicated to maintaining alumni relations as well as preserving Main Hall as an archive and museum of Milton College history.

1855 National Register building which served as the first building on the Milton College campus. Milton College was established as Milton Academy in 1844 and the liberal arts college was chartered as Milton College in 1867. Milton Academy was the first institution of higher education in the State of Wisconsin. The College closed in 1982 due to loss of accreditation, large debt and low student enrollment.
