The 20th Annual Marshall Lion's Ice Fisheree Festival
The celebration of winter does not have to end the day after Christmas. The season is about getting outside to those wide open spaces not normally explored during the rest of the year, like a lake. Not many of us have a boat, or canoe but during the winter lakes are accessible to us all and so is the solitude. A frozen lake is also something to celebrate, all around our region colonies of many hued, canvas tents are appearing on the ice for that moment to get away, that zen moment of catching that first panfish of the year. The town of Marshall is one destination not only to honor winter but celebrate all it has to offer. The Marshall Lion's 20th Annual Ice Fisheree Festival is everything about why we in Wisconsin love this season.
If you're new to ice fishing or fishing in general the Marshall Lions will help get you started with this great outdoor hobby. The Wisconsin DNR states on their website that the Free Fishing Weekend license waiver does not apply to Friday activities. The Ice Fisheree Festival is a fundraising event for the Marshall Lion's Club who give so much to the community during the year. In honor of the event's "20th year The Marshall Lion's club will be putting on the Ice Fisheree Festival with its' 1st ever Fireworks show launching over Mill Pond," says Lion's Club President, Denny Kloepping. In the true spirit of a winter carnival the Ice Fisheree has many activities celebrating Winter all taking place on the Marshall Millpond.
Activities this year include:
- A snow sculpting competition.
- Flag football,
- Outdoor Hammerschlagen (visit hammerschlagen.com to find out what hammerschlagen actually is)
- What would a winter carnival be without ice skating by candelight.
And don't forget Free jig poles are being passed out to the first 40 youth attending.
