Get Out Onto Lake Mendota and Take a Selfie with
the Statue of Liberty
This weeks begins the University of Wisconsin's annual foray into the celebration of the Winter season, the Wisconsin Union's Winter Carnival. Take North Park Street to its' watery terminus and that's where the fun on the ice begins. Descend street level down to frozen Lake Mendota from UW's scenic Memorial Union and enjoy activities such as snow shoeing (free rentals courtesy of Outdoor UW), mini-golf on ice, an ice climbing exhibition, a free showing of the movie Frozen, cross country skiing and an ice fishing derby put by Outdoor UW & Hoofers. Don't forget your warm beverage courtesy of the Jones Leadership Center before your jump onto Lake Mendota for the UW Broomball tournament (hockey for the skateless inclined.)
And of course get your phones fired up and ready for the boundless selfie moments with The Statue of Liberty (courtesy of a UW student council, campaign promise by the Pail and Shovel Party in the 1970s the same group of merrymakers that brought flamingo lawn ornaments to the university's Bascom Hill.)
The events begin on Monday (2/7) and run through Saturday 2/12.
Location: The UW Memorial Union inside and on Lake Mendota, Madison.
