After an absence in 2020 (due to COViD-19) Coffee Break Festival returned to downtown Stoughton last year. This Sunday, August 20 marks the festival's 25th year.

The annual event commemorates according to local lore the very first coffee break in the U.S. The popular, Stoughton festival pays homage to a story about a group of Norwegian, coffee drinking women who one day after working hours in a local tobacco warehouse decided to go home for a coffee break. And America's cherished, caffeine habit was born.

The 2022 Coffee Break Festival like previous years features a classics car show, arts and crafts vendors, a pork roast, and the Wisconsin requisite beer garden.

But the highlight the day of course is coffee, where visitors can watch a Coffee Brew-Off, or participate in the Cup O' Joe and sample from 6-8 coffee vendors, after purchasing a Coffee Break Festival 2022 coffee cup.

The first 100 participants in All Wheels Show will receive a dash plaque commemorating the 2022 Coffee Break Festival  There are also 35 different categories for trophies for participants to win.

As for which coffee vendors will be at this year's festival, Callie LaPoint, the Events Coordinator for the Stoughton Chamber is tight lipped. She will say however that "there are some local coffee businesses. We like to keep it a surprise until you get here.."

"We're excited to have the festival back (again.) We hope everyone practices safety and well being while attending the event," LaPoint added.

In the event of rain portions of Coffee Break Festival may move indoors at which time those attending it is recommended but not required to wear masks in accordance with Dane County's newest COVID-19 safety mandate.
