The National Weather Service Now Features An Experimental Inland Lakes Forecast For Southern Wisconsin

Don't like the weather now wait fifteen minutes, the old saying goes. If you have ever experienced being out in the middle of lake fishing before a big storm hits you may now have more time to get to shore thanks to the National Weather Service (NWS.) Recently launched from its' Milwaukee Sullivan office the NWS' is now offering recreational boaters and fisherman in the Southern Wisconsin region a detailed forecast for area lakes The 72 hour forecast includes useful data such as wave height, local weather conditions, temperature, winds and an estimate of the surface water temperature. Lakes that in Southern Wisconsin that are included are Lake Monona, Lake Mendota, Lake Geneva, White-water Lake, and Lake Koshkonong. The 72 hour forecast is available in both graphic loop and text formats. Boater need only visit  https://www.weather.gov/mkx/inland-lake-waves  to see the forecast in real-time. The NWS page features an interactive map of Southern Wisconsin. Users need only to click or mouse over a lake on the map to get forecast details. According to boating statistics gathered by the United States Coast Guard (USGS) in 2019 Wisconsin had 607,000 boats registered ranking the state 5th in the U.S. In total registrations.
