Lace up your trail shoes and join hikers across America in celebrating "National Take A Hike Day"

USA — The American Hiking Society's "National Take A Hike Day" encourages Americans young and old to get outdoors breathe the fresh air and immerse themselves in nature. "Time to celebrate! Call your friends and family and set a course for the trail nearest you," the AHS press release states. In this time of COVID-19 its' a hike is the perfect elixir for those stuck at home, wondering what to do with 10 cans of pinto beans, endless Zoom meetings, and pondering the latest styles in leisure active wear. Going outdoors is right for so many reasons like boosting the immune system, physical and mental health, and better sleep. When you you go remember to tread the trail less traveled with family or solo. And be sure to mask-up and social distance when indoors the public and avoid crowds.

How to avoid the crowds:

1. Avoid the state's most popular parks like Devil's Lake, Governor Nelson, and Kettle Moraine State Forest southern unit's Lapham Peak Area.

2. Travel to parks close to your home but outside the city

3. If possible don't visit parks and trails on the weekends especially Saturday

4. Consider county parks as they are often overlooked as destinations after the summer season

5. Do not pick trails which are popular cyclist destinations. Do a quick search online in your area to find out where local biking enthusiasts recommend and go somewhere else.
